Organic fabrics

Organic fabrics Craft materials: organic fabrics  :

Organic fabrics tend to be natural fibers (linen, hemp, wool, silk…) which come from renewable material and don't pose danger to our health. These fibers absorb humidity and allow the skin to breathe freely.

There are also new ecological fibres

  • Fleece wool can be made from recycling plastic bottles

  • “Sea cell” fabric is a mixture of algae and cellulose which distributes calcium, magnesium and vitamin E when in contact with the skin

  • Vegetable polymer can sometimes replace its chemical counterparts

Organic and fair-trade brands

  • Max Havelaar: Cotton products that adhere to fair trading conditions as stipulated by the private brand Max Havelaar. The producers do not propagate according to the organic charter but they limit chemical products and do not use genetically modified chemicals.

  • Fabrics based on organic fibers: Same standards as for the label "organic fabric" except that 70- 95% of the fibers should be classified as coming from organic sources.

  • Oeko Tex 100: The most famous brand. This brand stipulates that clothes do not come in any contact with harmful substances and that production sites are clean.

  • European Ecolabel: Harmful waste and substances have been limited during the production of clothes with this label.
