Crochet Yarn

Crochet yarn is of course the most essential material you need for crocheting. However you may also need stuffing and thread.

Crochet Yarn

  • Worsted weight yarn is the most common type.
  • Yarn comes in varying thicknesses (called weights) to meet your needs for any project. Yarn weights range from very fine to very bulky.
  • The more delicate the yarn, the more intricate your stitches can be.
  • The Craft Yarn Council of America (http://www.yarnstandards.com/) has created standards to categorize yarn weights. Within these standards, any yarn of a certain weight, when paired with a certain size hook, should produce approximately the same amount of stitches per inch (called gauge).

Stuffing

If you're making a pillow or a stuffed animal (as in amigurumi) with crochet, you'll need stuffing to fill the insides. Regular sewing stuffing will work.

Thread

You'll need some thread if you're sewing any embellishments onto your finished crochet work.
