Changing the thread of a serger every time we want to sew a piece of different colored clothing is a nuisance. So here is a tutorial which explains how to change the serger thread without the hassle.
This technique works for a Bernina 800DL and 700DL models and should work for others, as well.
Cut the looper threads (the 2 on the right) at about 10cm (3.94 inches).
Cut the left thread(s) all the way down to the bobbin.
Take out the old bobbins and put in the new ones.
Tie the old and new threads together for the two loopers.
Tighten the knots and cut off the excess thread, approximately 0.5cm (0.2 inches) from the knot.
Adjust the thread tension settings to minimum.
Raise the presser foot and open the lid in order to see the threads.
Delicately pull on the old chain. The needle thread will pull itself, the color of the looper threads will change after the knots. If it becomes stuck, give it a small tug.
Bring the presser foot back down once the two knots have passed.
Increase the tension and pass the thread(s) as you normally would.
Close the lid and serger.
