Cardboarding DIY & How To  :

Cardboarding How To

Carding is a simple and cheap manual activity which can be used in an infinite amount of ways.
Starting with just a piece of card, you can create all sorts of items; boxes but also lamp stands, handbags and umbrella holders.

It's up to you to let your imagination run wild and invent the rest.

Supplies
Tools
  • Ruler
  • Bender
  • Cutter
  • Pair of scissors
  • Protective support
Materials
  • Card
    • Leftover card
    • or piece of gray card (2.5mm , 1/10th inch) which can be found in any arts and crafts store. Those of 80 x 120cm (31 ½ x 47 ¼ inches) cost about £4. Be careful of the misconception that thicker cardboard is stronger. It’s actually down to how you work with it
  • Glue
    • White vinyl adhesive
    • or neoprene glue (quick-setting contact glue) : 5 cents per tube

Directions

Cardboarding: Classic assembly

  • Assemble the pieces of card one by one with strips of kraft paper preemptively doused in white vinyl adhesive.
  • If you wish to cover up your carding (with papier mâché for example) and if you don’t need the perfect base, you can assemble your pieces directly with adhesive tape.

Cardboarding: Incision assembly thanks to neoprene glue

This technique allows you to skip a stage and more importantly to create even more audacious pieces!

  • Notch the card with a cutter without cutting it entirely.
  • Fold the card along the notch and consolidate it with neoprene glue.
  • In the end, you will eventually have the possibility to consolidate it with strips of kraft paper.
