Eggshell mosaic art  How to make a mosaic using eggshells  : 

Who would have thought you could make such beautiful mosaic using eggshells? The next time you make an omelette or a cake, make sure you keep the eggshells - they are the perfect materials for making your own mosaic! Making mosaics doesn't have to be expensive or complicated, you can make them using simply eggshells, glue and your own creativity! Why not use this technique to decorate a box, a photo frame, or just a nice picture to put up in the house - the possibilities are endless with eggshell mosaic art!

Supplies
Tools
  • Saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Optional: paintbrush
Materials
  • Egg shells
    • One eggshell can cover a square 10cm x 10cm 
  • PVA glue
  • Base (box, frame)
  • Filler (paste to fill in the cracks)
  • Sandpaper
  • Optional:
    • Varnish
    • Ink
Directions

Prepare the eggshells

  • Place the eggshells in a saucepan of hot water for a few minutes (this will help to peel the skin off).
  • Take them out and dry them very carefully.
  • Peel off the skin on the inside of the shell.
  • Try to keep the eggshells in big pieces.

Begin making the mosaic 

  • Spread a square of glue (about 2 x 3 cm) on the base and place a piece of eggshell on top.
  • Gently crush the eggshell with your finger. 
  • Continue spreading the glue, and crush the shells using a spoon or your finger. 
  • Once you have covererd the entire base, leave it to dry for at least 24 hours. 

Finish the mosaic

  • Cover the mosaic with paste to fill in all the gaps between eggshell fragments. 
  • Leave it a little while, then wipe clean with water.
  • Optional: cover the mosaic with ink and leave it to dry for an hour.
  • Sandpaper over all the mosaic.
  • Optional: varnish or cover with another layer of ink.
