Fancy planting a window box to bring some bloom to a balcony or window? It’s easy with some basic techniques: we can all watch our window boxes blossom on our terraces or balconies. First of all choose your container, then the plants. These can anything from classic geraniums to more exotic varieties.
Place the pebbles on the bottom of the window box for drainage.
Fill the window box half way with soil.
Place the different plants in the window box.
Vary the colours and shapes, paying attention to leave enough space between each plant to give it space to grow.
Fill up the container with the remaining soil.
Water generously. Don’t be afraid to water too much.
Add fertilizer.
Pick off yellow leaves when transplanting plants.
Water a lot after planting and then less during the rooting period.
Add some mulching to avoid water evaporation and for decoration.
Red geraniums should be kept for shady areas whereas yellow, blue or pink flowers are more suited to sunny areas.
