Jewelry Clasps

Jewelry Clasps Craft Materials: jewelery clasps  :

A necklace or bracelet should be able to be put on and taken off easily. Knowing how to make claps and links is therefore essential. Easy to fit, with a professional result: why not give it a try?

Let’s start by adding the clasp or link. After threading on the beads, add the other part of the catch.
If your item of jewellery is made up of many threads, consider adding a bead tip.

Supplies
Tools
  • Pair of scissors or cutting pliers
  • Flat nose pliers
Materials
  • Nylon or wire thread
  • Clasp and double link
  • Crimp beads
Directions

Adding a clasp with a thread

  • Cut the thread to the desired length.
  • Slip the thread through the clasp.
  • Thread on one or two crimp beads.

NB: Using two crimp beads makes your piece of jewellery more solid.

  • Slip one end of the thread towards the crimp beads and let the crimp beads slide along the thread so that they are eventually just below the clasp.

  • Flatten the crimp bead with the flat nose pliers.

Assembling a clasp with several threads

  • For an even number of X threads:

    • Cut X/2 to an equal length or double the final wished for length.
    • Pass them through the clasp.
    • Fold them in two being careful to ensure that the clasp is in the middle of the thread.
    • Put all the ends of the thread in to one or two crimp beads. NB: two crimp beads make your piece of jewellery more solid.
    • Flatten the crimp beads with the flat nose pliers just after the clasp.
  • For an uneven number of Y threads:

    • Cut Y/2 to an equal length or double the final wished for length.
    • Pass them through the clasp.
    • Fold them in two being careful to ensure that the clasp is in the middle of the thread.
    • Put all the ends of the thread in to one or two crimp beads. NB: two crimp beads make your piece of jewellery more solid.
    • Add a single length of thread.
    • Flatten the crimp beads with the flat nose pliers just after the clasp.
    • Make sure that the threads are well fixed with the crimp beads.

Assembling links

  • Put the link or the thread through a crimp bead then through a link, and then once more through a crimp bead.

  • Let the crimp beads slide to just beneath the link.

  • Crush the crimp bead with the flat nose pliers.

  • Cut the ends of the beading wire.

    • either directly under the crimp bead.

    • or a few centimetres away so that the beading wires can be slid through the nearest beads.
