Shabby Chic

Shabby Chic Style: Shabby chic home decor  :

With anglosaxon origin, shabby chic style is ideal for restoring old unfinished wood furniture.

The concept? Accentuating, with clear or flashy tints, the imperfections caused by their history and the materials they are made out of. Shabby chic is the perfect way of giving old furniture a new lease of life - it's cost-effective too!

Supplies
Tools
  • 1 thin synthetic fiber brush (thicker or thinner depending on the surface to be painted)
  • Fine lens paper
  • Neutral furniture police (or yellow) in paste form
  • 1 steel wool sponge
Materials
  • 1 candle or dry Marseille soap
  • Acrylic paint in light colors (white cream, pale green, taupe, light gray, ivory) or with a flashy tint (pink, pistachio green, blue-gray, or red)
Directions

Prepare the furniture for shabby chic style

  • Sand the surface with the thin lens paper so that it is porous and rejuvenated.
  • Scrub with the candle or the Marseille soap the spots that you want to create an old feel, especially the edges and the bulges if its a piece of furniture.
  • Apply, with the brush in an even manner, a layer of paint over the entire surface.
  • Let dry.

Restore in the shabby chic style

  • Scrub the entire surface with the glass paper, going over the places where you used the candle until you acheive your desired look.
  • Restore with a warm, wet sponge.
  • Slowly apply the wax over the entire surface with the steel wool sponge, after heating it in a casserole dish.
  • Let dry.
  • Eventually, quickly go over the entire piece with the steel wool sponge for added shine.
