Backstitch

Backstitch Craft How tos: Threaded backstitch  :

Contrary to the straight stitch, the threaded backstitch is strong, and useful for sewing parts of fabric that are difficult to sew with a machine. As much as we love our sewing machines, there are times when a backstitch is a better option, so learn it now!

Directions

Stitching on the right side

What is the threaded backstitch?

  • The threaded backstitch is useful to sew strong stitches or to make an end stitch.

  • Making small and regular stitches, will give the same aspect as a machine stitch (no space between the stitches) on the right side. On the wrong side, the stitches overlap and the effect is more crude.

Stitching on the wrong side

How to sew a threaded backstitch

  • For a 2 mm stitching, from right to left : make a right side stitch, 2 mm on the right and a 4 mm stitch on the wrong side on the left.

  • 2 mm on the right, and push out 4 mm on the left. Repeat.
