Materials
- Flat paintbrush
- Colour
- Water
- 300g water paper
- Kraft tape
Directions
Basics of wash painting
- Put a bit of paint in a pot and generously dilute it with water. Use enough paint for all of the wash drawing.
- Stretch your paper over a board to stop it wrinkling. Tape it down using the Kaft tape, having already soaled it in water or soddened it with a sponge.
- Tilt the board and paint a 2st strip across the length of the top of the sheet.
- Paint a 2nd strip backwards to the first. Change direction simultaneously with each strip of paint until the whole sheet is covered.
- Whipe the brush on a cloth and absorb the left over paint on the edges of the sheet.

Tips
- Before hurling yourself into tint painting, try the colors out. Pigments can become darker while drying.
- Use this technique on a moistened sheet of paper. The drying process will take longer, but wetness avoids the risk of visible brush traces or clefts.
