Window Color Craft How tos: window color  :

This tutorial shows you how to decorate windows, vases, glasses, mirrors or even your refridgerator! Whether they are short or long term decorations, using Window Color you can stick up and take down these plastic decorations when you want. The technique couldn't be easier: trace from a colouring book and colour it in. The more talented artists can draw their own images. This activity is perfect for kids' crafts; if you explain the ground rules and they prove themselves to be cautious and have patience!

Supplies
Materials
  • Paints for removable decorations: outliner and filler
  • A smooth and transparent plastic support, polythene (PE) or polypropylene (PP). Examples: plastic bags, flower wrap or books… If you use PVC, the paintings will peel off with difficulty
  • A pattern to trace from a colouring book
Directions

Basics of window color

  • Put your transparent support onto the pattern and trace the outline directly using the tip of the outliner tube.
  • Leave to dry for 1 to 2 hours.
  • Generously colour the interior (minimum of 3mm to ensure the drawing does not split once dry) with the filler leaving no gaps.
  • Leave to dry for 24 hours, less if it's cold and more if you can see it will peel off with difficulty.
  • Once dry, the pattern becomes a plastic skin which easily detaches from the support.  Stick to smooth supports such as glass, plastic, metal or even ceramics.
Tips

Tracing the outline with Window Color

  • The outliner is more viscous than the filler. It allows a proper border and the accentuation of the outline.
  • Shake the tube well before use and test its texture on a sheet of paper.
  • Press the tube constantly and hold it some centimeters above you support, so that you do not flatten the outline with the tip of you tube.
  • Mind painting thick and uniform outlines. The color can shrink while drying.
  • Don't worry! You can anytime erase little faults with a cotton bud.

Coloration with Window Color

  • Apply the filler to the middle of the surface that is to be painted and spread it with a toohtpick until the color tocuhes the outline.
  • You can also mix the colors with a toothpick to obtain marbled effects, new colors and even hues.
  • As the color tends to shrink while drying, add some more color if the painted surfaces do not touch the outline anymore after drying.

Pasting and detaching the window color

  • If the image does not stick anymore, wet it a little.
  • If you can not detach your image from a cold window, heat it a little with a hairdryer.
  • Dampness can let your motifs become milky, coldness perishs them. Don't glue your images on windows exposed to strong sunlight.

Final touches for the window color

  • If you want to create a mobile, use a transparent support which gives you design some stability. For example a thicker plastic board made of PVC where you can cut out your motifs.
  • You can also sprinkle the color with sequins or tiny pearls.
  • When the motif has dried, you can trim your image in case you painted beyond the outline.
