Embroidering the envelope

• Cut a piece of raw linen of 40 x 21 cm (15.75 x 8.27 inches).

• Embroider the ladder stitch (see the ladder stitching technique) to mark out 3 parts
  • 2 rectangles - 18 x 13 cm (7.09 x 5.12 inches) (the front and back)
  • 1 rectangle - 18 x 6 cm (7.09 x 2.36 inches) (the flap)

• The ladder stitches allow you to
  • mark out the places in which to embroider,
  • make a nice decorative effect,
  • achieve straight edges.
• Embroider the design, and the address whilst keeping in mind the different directions and flap (which hides some of the back when the envelope is closed).

Assembling the embroidered envelope

• Fold the welts with an iron.

• For the doubling, cut a piece slightly bigger than the area (folded welts).
• Make the welts with an iron to achieve a piece which is slightly smaller than the linen area.

• Sew the doubling with a running stitch.
• Sew the sides of the envelope with a sewing machine and with thread of the same color as the raw linen.

• Sew the transparent buttons for the envelope seal.

• Stick a real (not embroidered!) stamp on the envelope with gel glue.
