Pirate Sash How to...make a pirate sash

A free sewing pattern for a pirate sash

This blood- red pirate sash can be made up a few minutes.

It gives the finishing touch to the pirate costume: the pirate pants, pirate shirt, pirate sash and pirate scarf.

Materials
  • 150 x 10 cm (59-1/16 x 3-15/16 inches) red cotton fabric (or several strips 10 cm (3-15/16 inches) in width, sewn end to end)

NB: Satin is too slippery  and jersey tends to bunch up!

Directions
  • Whip-stitch all the pieces of fabric.
  • If the last piece of fabric is not long enough and 2 pieces are needed: pin the seam on the outside of one of the strips onto the inside seam of another strip, so that they are back to back.

  • Bring in 2 mm (1/16 inch) of fabric from the edge of the sash and fold over to the right.
  • Sew this hem 1mm from the edge. Iron it flat.

  • Sew a turned-in (rolled) hem of 2-3 mm (1/16 inch) the whole length of the sash.
