Where do you put all those bits and bobs that live in your pockets? Here’s a little painted porcelain tidy tray which will take care of all your odds and ends and spare change. You might want to paint a message or a date on your porcelain tidy tray that reminds you of a happy time.

Supplies

Tools

Round ended paintbrushes, large (n°5), medium (n°3) et very fine (n°0)
Palette
Jar for water
Cloth
Household oven

Materials

Porcelain ashtray
Porcelain paint in mauve, ruby red, green and black
Washing up liquid or methylated spirits
Cotton buds

Directions

Clean the Porcelain Tidy Tray

Degrease the ashtray with soapy water or alcohol.

Decorate the Porcelain Tidy Tray

Prepare your colours in the palette.
Copy the design directly onto the porcelain or use the carbon paper method (see section « Porcelain Painting » >Painting a pattern).

First paint the heart in mauve using the large paintbrush. Leave to dry for a few minutes.
Then paint the decorations in green using the medium paintbrush. Leave to dry again.
Finish by doing the red details using the fine paintbrush. Leave to dry again.
Write your message in black using the fine paintbrush.
As in the photo, you can also paint a leafy border around the edges of the tray with a line of red dots.
Leave to dry for 24h away from dust.

Fire the decoration of the Porcelain Tidy Tray

Put the tray in the oven, following the instructions of your porcelain paint manufacturer.

Tips

When changing paint colour, make sure you clean your paintbrush in clean water.
If you want to put on a second layer of paint, wait until the first one is completely dry and apply the paint very carefully.
