Fruits déguisés Party snack receipt

Fruits déguisés are a classic sugary treat at New Year's parties and are very typically French. They are very simple to make: all you have to do is fill dry fruits with colored almond paste and roll them in granulated sugar to make them more festive.

The recipe below uses prunes and dates, but any other dried fruit can be used for the same recipe.

Supplies
Tools
  • Knife
Materials
  • Granulated sugar
  • Almond paste of different colors
  • Dried fruits (dates, prunes etc.)
Directions
  • Remove the middle of the dates and prunes making a precise incision in them with a knife.

  • Cut out pieces of almond paste, all of an equal size.

  • Shape these pieces of almond paste so that you can fill the dried fruits with them, but still allow them to be visible as well.

  • Put some pressure on them so that the fruit and the almond paste stick together well.

  • Roll everything in the granulated sugar.

  • Place on a plate, playing around with color and symetry when arranging them.

Tips
  • Try filling other dried fruits: figs, apricots...and why not even 2 grapes stuck together with marzipan? Being small, they let use succomb to temptation, but not feel guilty about it afterwards.

  • Try filling nuts as well:
    • break the nuts in half in the way you would to get walnut halves
    • place a small amount of marzipan on each half
    • put them together and excert a pressure so that they stick together.
  • In the shops, you generally get pink or green marzipan. Why not make some of your own marzipan with the colors of your choosing?
