Mirror frame Free craft tutorial

"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?"

Yes, that this an awfully cliched line, but with this cardboard mirror frame you will be able to find out if you are the fairest of them all...

Supplies
Tools
  • Glue gun
  • Damp sponge
  • Hammer
  • 1 (or some) paintbrush(es)
  • Pencil
Materials
  • Double grooved cardboard
  • 1 old calendar made from stiff card
  • 1 mirror (here it measures 18cm x 24cm (7.2 inches x 9.6 inches))
  • Rolled up brown paper
  • Newspaper
  • Different types of glue:
    • Wallpaper paste
    • Wood glue
    • Neoprene glue
    • Glue sticks for the glue gun
  • 1 picture hook
  • 2 small nails.
  • Acrylic paint.
  • Accessories for decoration (beads, stones etc.)
Directions

Prepare to make the mirror frame

  • Take off the mirror's plastic cover.

  • Place the glass piece of the mirror on the card.
  • Copy out the outline of the mirror on cardboard.
  • Draw the outline of the frame:
    • ensure  that the inner edges don’t touch the outline of the mirror:
    • ensure that the upper edges are more than 2 cm (0.8 inches).
  • Make a second outline, identical to the first.
  • Draw a 3rd outline:
    • mark out the edges of the mirror:
    • cut out the outside of the layout at 2 cm (0.8 inches):
    • this will give you the mirror stand.

Make the mirror frame

  • Glue the first two outlines together with the glue gun.
  • Cover the inside and the outside with the rolled up brown paper.
  • Rip up strips of newspaper.

  • Prepare the wallpaper paste as indicated on the packaging:
    • add a tablespoonful of wood glue.
  • Glue on the strips of paper in one way:
    • Leave to dry:
    • glue on more strips in the other way, in order to cover the entire surface.

Finishing touches to the mirror frame:

  • Paint the frame.
  • Glue the mirror onto the 3rd outline on the inside of the layout with the glue gun.
  • Cut out the old calendar to the same measurements as the 3rd outline:
    • cut out the inside to the dimensions of the mirror.
  • Glue it onto the 3rd outline around the mirror.

  • Center the mirror:
    • draw out the outlines on the back of the frame.
  • Glue on the outline of the mirror with the glue gun:
    • put it on the back of the frame.
  • Cover the back of the ensemble with the rolled up brown paper.
  • Glue on the hook with the neoprene glue:
    • hammer so that the link is located outside the mirror support.

  • Decorate as you wish!
