- Floral foam
- Zinc sheet (old gutter or similar)
- Chicken netting (the same height as the desired height of the bouquet)
- Red raffia
Directions
Prepare the roses' for the Valentines' bouquet
- Cut the rose stems to 5 cm (2 inches), cutting them diagonally to keep them fresh for longer.
- Dampen the foam by placing it in a tub of water. Allow it to sink and swell with water.
NB : do not push it to the bottom of the tub, or it will fill with air and float.
- Cut out a heart from the sheet of zinc using the metal shears. The diameter of the heart depends on the diameter of your final arrangement.
NB : zinc is sharp, use protective gloves.
Outside of the Valentines' bouquet
- Wrap the chicken netting around the tray, pulling it together.
- Attach the ends of the chicken netting wire to the tray to form a cylinder.
NB : the height and width of the arrangement should be roughly equal. Allow 15 cm (6 inches) extra netting lengthways.
- Fold the excess netting over to form the rounded top of the arrangement.
- Attach the metal heart.
Decorate the Valentines' bouquet
- Place the floral foam on top of the tray.
- Push the red roses into the foam in the shape of a heart.
- Cut the sprigs of lavender and thyme a little bit shorter than the roses.
- Add the lavender sprigs to the centre of the heart of roses.
- Surround the heart of roses with sprigs of thyme and lavender.
Finishing touches to the bouquet
- Enclose the floral arrangement in the netting cylinder.
- Attach a few decorations (felt flowers etc) to the netting using a glue gun.
- Weave a piece of red raffia around the base through the mesh.
