Cardboard Shelving Free DIY tutorial

This cardboard shelving is easy to put together! An extra bit of furniture in a child's room, or any other room for that matter, it is very useful with its 3 draws to tidy everything into.

Supplies
Tools
  • Cutter
  • Glue gun
Materials
  • 2 sheets of double-grooved cardboard
  • Tissue paper
  • Newspaper
  • PVA glue
  • Paper towels
  • Gesso
Directions

Make cardboard shelving

  • Put the cardboard upright (in the sense of the grooves).
  • Draw a rectangle measuring 30cm x 40cm as well as the handle. The curve is at a height of 7cm.

  • Cut out one of the shapes of card using a cutter.

  • Place the cut-out piece of card on another piece of card and cut out the same shape following its outlines.

Assembly of the cardboard shelving

  • Stick the 2 sheets of card together using a glue gun.

  • Make the drawer:
    • Cut out 4 pieces of card 30cm x 10cm.
    • Stick them together 2 by 2 and do the same for the smaller sides for the drawer which measure 9cm x 10cm. Do this to have double thickness for your drawers.
  • Use cardboard that is 0.5cm thick.
  • Assemble everything together in this way:
    • 2 pieces 9cm x 8cm (sides),
    • 2 pieces 8cm x 8cm (front and bottom),
    • 1 piece 8cm x 8cm (back).
    • Stick the front, back and sides together and then the base on.
    • Cover with pieces of newpaper and PVA glue.
    • Leave to dry.

  • Cut out the following pieces for the small shelf:
    • The back measuring 30cm x 9cm,
    • 2 sides measuring 8.5cm x 5cm,
    • The front measuring 30cm x 5cm,
    • Make sure the side pieces of the shelf are 5cm high.
    • Center it on the shelving,
    • Cut it to 1.5 cm.

  • Cut a piece of card measuring 30cm x 24cm.
  • Bend the part .
  • Fold into a U-shape with 7cm at the bottom to allow you to stick it down(using a glue gun of course).

  • Apply PVA glue and paper towels ( Art Attack style!) to the handle.

  • Cover the cardboard with newspaper and let it dry.

Finishing touches to the cardboard shelving

  • Apply a second layer of newspaper to the cardboard.

  • Put a layer of gesso on it and allow to dry.

  • Decorate the shelf with red tissue paper.
