Perler Bead Coasters  Free craft tutorial for kids

Perler beads, also known as fuse beads or Hama beads, can be used to make a whole variety of fun things. Watch this video and see how to make perler bead coasters and a perler bead photo frame. Customize however you like - themed coasters for a birthday party, or personalized coasters for a unique gift idea. Quick and easy to make, even young kids can help out with this one, just be sure to supervise them with the iron!

Supplies
Tools
  • Iron
  • Tweezers
  • Glue
  • Scissors
Materials
  • Optional: pattern
  • Perler beads
  • Ironing paper
  • Peg board
  • Coaster pads
Directions

First side of the perler bead coasters

  • Pre-heat the iron to medium heat.
  • If using a template, place this under the peg board.
  • Use tweezers to poisition perler beads on the peg board.
  • When you have finished the design, cover with ironing paper.
  • Move the iron in circular motions for about 15 seconds until the beads are fused together.

Second side of the perler bead coasters

  • When cool, remove peg board and turn design over.
  • Cover with ironing paper and iron the other side.
  • Attach coaster pads to the base.

Tips
  • Always ask for an adult's help with the iron.
  • Take care not to swallow the perler beads.
  • For younger children, there are also 'biggie beads' which come with 'biggie bead peg boards'. These are bigger and easier for small children to handle.
