American Indian Costume Free sewing pattern

Spend an afternoon with the Cheyennes! Children love playing outside in the sunshine so let them pretend they're on an Indian reservation. With a few quick stitches, you can transform them into real little American Indians with this colorful costume. Aooo!

Supplies
Tools
  • Needle
  • Scissors
Materials
  • Sewing thread
  • Fringed fabric
  • Zig zap strips in 2 different colors (see first picture)
  • 2 pieces of fabric (1 for the bib)
Directions

Trousers of the American Indian Costume

  •  Using running stitch, sew both edges of the zig zag strips to the trouser fabric to make sure they're securely attached (as a general rule, use one stitch at the peak and dip of each wave.)

  • Secure the strips by stitching over them (see above).

  •  Assemble the pieces with the front and back together.

  •  Attach the fringing to the side seams, from the waist to the edge of the bottom hem.

Tunic of the American Indian Costume

  • Place the pattern for the tunic on the reverse side of the material (folded in half)
  • Cut out the tunic: place the centre line on the fold in the fabric.

  • Draw the bib to fit the neckline.

  • Attach a zig zag strip to the circumference of the bib, leaving the neckline plain.

  •  Place the bib on the front of the tunic, pin and stitch in place.

  •  Sew fringing to the side seams.
