Jersey Top  Free sewing pattern

A belted jersey top tied with a bow…Simple and yet elegant, this long loose t-shirt is an essential in every woman’s wardrobe.

  • Jersey cotton
  • Thread

Cut out the fabric for the jersey top

  • Take your measurements from shoulder to shoulder.
  • Remove 10 cm (4 inches) and divide by 2.
  • Draw our pattern following the diagram below.
  • Fold the fabric in 2 and place the pattern on top of it.
  • Cut around the pattern.
  • Repeat the process with another piece of fabric: you will get an identical front and back for your top.

  • *Cut out twice, using folded over fabric.
  • *Measure shoulder to shoulder – 10 cm ( 4 inches)
  • *65cm (26 inches) fold in the fabric x 40 cm (16 inches) x 10 cm (4 inches) x 25 cm (10 inches)

Assemble the jersey top

  • Take your hip measurement for the waistband and cut out a rectangle 11 cm (4 inches) x hip circumference.
  • Fold the rectangle in half lengthways and sew the short sides together.
  • Fold the tube in half with the wrong sides facing each other so you have a rectangle of 5. 5 cm (2 inches) x ½ hip circumference.
  • Using a needle and thread, gather the bottom of the top so that it fits the waistband.
  • Line up the waistband with the bottom of the top, aligning the waistband stitching with the stitching at the sides of the top.
  • Stitch the edges together.

Make the bow for the jersey top

  • Cut out a strip of 11cm x 70 cm (4 inches x 28 inches).
  • Fold in half lengthways with the wrong sides facing outwards and stitch together to create a tube.
  • Leave an opening to turn it the right way round and close with invisible stitches.
  • Iron then mark the middle of the tube to sew it to the top.
  • Tie a pretty knot.
