Supplies
Tools
  • Heart-shaped cake tin
  • 2 mixing bowls
  • Knife
  • Measuring cup
  • Oven
  • Wire cooling rack
Materials
  • 250g of flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 150g butter, softened
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 120 ml of milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 40g cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
  • A pinch of salt
Directions
  • Preheat the oven to 180º.
  • Grease the heart-shaped cake tin.
  • Mix the flour, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl.
  • Add the eggs one at a time to the sugar and beat until pale and creamy. Alternate with adding glugs of milk.
  • Add the vanilla extract.
  • Separate the batter into two bowls.
  • To one bowl of batter, add the cocoa powder and mix well.
  • To the other bowl of batter, add the red food coloring and mix well.
  • Fill the cake tin, adding a bit of each mixture at a time.
  • Gently make figure-of-eight shapes with the tip of a knife in the batter to give a marble effect.
  • Cook for 35-40 minutes.
  • Leave to cool for 5 minutes and then turn the cake out onto a wire cooling rack.
  • Decorate the cake however you want: sugar hearts, chocolate hearts ... Use your imagination!
