Directions
Base of the lace apple
- onto the wrong side of the toile de Jouy (which will form the front of the apple);
- onto the wrong side of the cotton/plain linen fabric (which will form the back of the apple).
- Pin the length of crocheted lace on the right side of the toile de Jouy (the front of the apple), leaving an overhang of about 5 to 8 mm (0.3 inches) on each side.
- Lay the 2 sides of the apple together, right sides facing inwards, ensuring that the length of crocheted lace hangs over each side.
- Pin together carefully with the sewing pins and backstitch around the edge, beginning at the bottom of the crocheted lace on one side of the apple.
- Stop about 3 cm (1.2 inches) before reaching the first stitches and turn the apple right side out.
- Stuff with batting.
Decorate the apple
- Use an invisible stitch to close the 3 cm (1.2 inches) opening.
- Tack the length of crocheted lace in place with a few hidden stitches.
- Position a wider length of crocheted lace in the middle of the back of the apple (on the cotton/plain linen fabric).

- Use a straight stitch to sew together around the outside of the apple, to make a ridge of a few millimeters.
- Thread a long length of brown ribbon through the tapestry needle.
- Insert the needle and ribbon through the back of the apple, leaving 3 or 4 cm (1.5 inches) hanging out the back side.
- Bring the needle and ribbon back out the top of the front of the apple (the toile de Jouy side).
- Repeat the above 2 steps with pink ribbon.

- Tightly knot the 2 ribbon ends of 3 or 4 cm (1.5 inches) which both now hang out the back of the apple.
- NB: Leave a few centimeters of ribbon on either side of the knot.

- Stitch the remaining lengths of ribbon, hanging out the front of the apple, to the front side of the apple, forming a rigid stem.
- Twist the remainder of ribbon into a pretty braid.
Make the apple leaf
- Copy the leaf template onto a scrap of printed fabric (which will form the front side of the leaf).
- Cut out flush along the line of the leaf template.
- Repeat with the white felt (which will form the back side of the leaf).
- Glue the 2 pieces together.
- Attach the base of the leaf behind the apple stem by stitching it onto the cotton/plain linen fabric (the back of the apple).
