Bored with an old skirt? Nice fit but maybe a little too conventional? Why not give your wardrobe a breath of fresh air and transform it into a beautiful puff ball skirt!
Fold your skirt in half lengthwise.
Place your skirt on fabric 1, also folded in half, with the grain.
Cut 2 pieces around the skirt, making sure that the waist measurement (which is to be elasticized) will match the size of the hips with a little extra ease. You should also allow 4cm (1.5 inches) above the waist for the elastic itself. This will be the outer layer of the skirt.
Position one of the pieces of fabric you have cut out on top of a piece of fabric 2, again folded in half.
Using the base of the skirt as a guide, cut two pieces 25cm (10 inches) deep, adding a margin of 1cm (half an inch) in the width for the seam.
Place the fabric pieces 1 and 2 by the points as marked in the pattern, and stitch along the longer seam (the bottom of the skirt).
Repeat with the other two pieces.
To assemble, stitch along the 2 sides of the fabric to make a larger version of your original skirt.
Go back and elasticize the 2 pieces, one after another. This independence of the skirts at the waist will accentuate the ‘ball’ effect of the skirt.
