Here is a tutorial of how to make a panda lantern out of recycled material. Encourage the kids to join in this hands-on activity and watch their creative juices flow as their lantern comes to life!
Cut the milk carton near the top.
Cut out 2 large rectangles in sides that are opposite each other.
Paint with your finger around the edges of the sides you have just cut the rectangle from.
Stick the white corrugated paper (or white card) on the remaining sides using a glue gun.
Retrace the outline of the panda with the pen, making sure you press down hard to leave an outline on the card that you can draw on.
Draw the features of the panda on the card.
Cut out the different shapes.
Color the cheeks, the inside of the ears and the eyes.
Draw:
a thin line around the nose to show the difference between the nose and the eyes.
the mouth and the eyebrows with the waterproof felt-tip pen.
Paint on 2 small points in the eyes with white paint.
Cut out the inside bit of the body, leaving 2cm around the edge.
Stick on the transparent paper using the glue stick.
Make 2 holes in the side of the milk carton using the point of some scissors.
Pass the wire through the holes.
Stick on the bamboo and leaves to the panda using the gluegun.
Put a candle inside the lantern.
