This Advent calendar is a box made from recycled plastic pots filled with sweets or some other surprise. You find out what's in each pot day by day over the month of December. All you have to do is rip off the paper that covers each of the tubs. This calendar has two great things going for it: it costs almost nothing and makes children really happy. For once, it's ok for them to rip something apart!
Supplies
Tools
  • Glue gun
  • Cutter
  • Scissors
  • Paint brushes
Materials
  • 24 tubs (all the same size)
  • Cardboard
  • Tissue paper
  • Adhesive
  • Grey paper
  • Silver letters
  • White paint
  • Sweets (or other small gifts) 
  • Glue
  • Nail glue
Directions

  • Stick 12 tubs together in a row of 3 x 4 and then glue them back to back with the other 12 tubs, using the glue gun.

NB: Keep an eye on the temperature of the glue, so that you don't melt the plastic.

  • Surround your plastic tub structure with cardboard and attach it in place using the glue gun.

  • Fill the first 12 tubs with sweets.

  • Cover them up with tissue paper, attaching it using adhesive.

  • Do the same thing on the other side of the calendar.

  • Now cover the top with grey paper, attaching it using nail glue.

 

  • Glue the silver letters onto the paper to make words, "Christmas Spirit" for example.

  • Draw a tree on one of the lateral sides and Christmas baubles on the other.

  • Write the dates on the tissue paper for each day of advent.
