The scrunchie has become a classic way to style your hair. It’s practical but can also be an elegant accessory with the right choice of fabric and size. 
Supplies
Tools
  • Needle
  • Pair of scissors
Materials
  • 60 cm x 10 cm (2 feet x 4 inches) of fabric (10 cm (4 inches) is the minimum width for an adult)
  •  25 cm (10 inches) elastic (0.5 cm (1/4 inch) width)
  • Safety pin
  • Thread
Directions

To make the scrunchy

  • Cut out the fabric.
  • Stitch all around the edge using zig-zag stitch.
  • Fold in half lengthways (10 cm (4 inches) becomes 5 cm (2 inches)).
  • Sew one of the ends together and the long side.
  • Turn the right way out. 

  • Iron.

  • Fold over the edges of one of the openings.
  • Insert the opening which has not been folded over inside the other opening.  
  • Sew together with tiny hidden stitches, leaving an opening of 3 cm (1 inch).
  • Pass the elastic through the scrunchie using a safety pin.   

  • Tie the ends of the elastic together.
  • Sew the remaining opening shut.

Tips
  • Make your first scrunchie out of cotton to make it easier.
