Supplies
Tools
- Brushes (1 for paint, 1 for varnish)
- Mini-drill and protection (helmet, goggles, mask)
- Protractor
Materials
- Metal disks
- Acrylic paint (envisage many colours)
- Varnish
- 1 m of small, brass, balled chain with 4 clasps
- Transparent nylon thread
- One old vinyl record
Directions
Prepare the discs for the disco mobile
- Choose vibrant colors or pastels and apply two coats of paint so that the color is uniform with each small metal disk. Let it dry between each coat.
- To give it a polished look, apply a coat of finish.
- Organize your discs, mixing a variety of colors and diameters. You can make 6 rows of circles of varying sizes.
- Connect each row vertically with the transparent wire.

Prepare the support for the disco mobile
- For support of your mobile, mark four points equidistant from the center of the vinyl record, about 1 cm from the outer edge, imagining 2 perpendicular lines crossing through the center of the record.
- To support the metal discs, mark 6 points equidistant from the center, about 2.5 cm from the outer edge of the record. Imagine a line traversing the center of the record (see diagram). With the help of a protractor, make the reference points at 60 degrees.
- Pierce first the four holes of medium size that will fix the attachments of the entire mobile (red dots).
- Then pierce the 6 small holes that will permit you to fix the nylon wire and the metal discs (blue diamonds).

- Once the record is ready, take a colored paper and, drawing a circle with your compass, cut it using a sharp cutter. Apply it to the center of the record.

- Tie the 6 lines of the discs with the nylon thread, making many knots in between so that each disc will be fixed.
- Cut 2x30 cm of the ball chain with scissors.
- Fasten each arm of the chain onto one of the medium-sized four holes with a clasp.
- Slip 2 bits of chain onto a hook that will be used to hang your mobile.
