Tote bags are all the rage at the moment - stylish, practical and good for the environment. Sew your own tote bag by following Bab's tutorial, who has included every accessory you could need: even a cell phone pocket and a key chain. Advice from the author: "Concentrate on how you set up the accessories!"

Materials

50 x 50 cm of each fabric you have chosen
1 shiny clasp 40 cm long that will match the outside fabric of the bag
2.8m of material for the straps (use more if you want longer straps)
1 snap hook
20 cm of assorted ribbon
2 large leather buttons (or another decorative element)
Matching thread

Directions

Prepare the fabric for the tote bag

Cut out the fabric needed for the exterior of the bag, the interior, the inside pocket, the cell phone pocket and the large inside pocket.

Prepare the exterior pocket:
- Oversew
- Sew the edge

Position where you want the outer pocket to appear on the bag and sew it on.

Add the straps to the tote bag

Sew the straps on either side of the exterior pocket.

Sew on the decorations (the 2 large leather buttons, or the decorations you chose)

Lining of the tote bag

Sew the large pocket (it will be attached by the side seams and on the bottom).

Sew on the cell phone pocket and key chain.

Making a corner to give your bag more room:
- Position the seam on the side against the seam on the edge,
- Measure 5cm from the corner,
- Mark and trace a line perpendicular to the seam,
- Sew
- Cut off excess
