Crochet Bookmark  How to make a crochet strawberry bookmark

A lovely crochet bookmark to slip into a book for yourself or as a present. Personalize it by writing a few words on the attached piece of cardboard.

Supplies
Tools
  • Knitting needles (n° 3)
  • Crochet needle (n°3)
  • Wool needle
  • Sewing needle
  • Scissors
  • Exacto knife (for scoring)
Materials
  • Green and red cotton thread
  • 10 stone pearls
  • 1 off-cut of assorted material
  • Sewing thread
  • Synthetic wadding
  • A cardboard box (e.g.: food packaging)
  • Double-sided adhesive ribbon
  • Glue
  • 9 x 14 cm piece of wrapping paper
Directions

Strawberry for the crochet bookmark

  • Following the markings on the diagram below, knit the strawberry.

  • Close the stitches, leaving one.
  • NB: For the left-overs, fold the stitches to one side.
  • Cut the cotton to a length of 25cm.

 

 

  • Sew on the pearls to make the grains of the strawberry.
  • NB: The placing of the pearls is shown on the diagram by the squares of colour.
  • Pin the strawberry onto the material, face to face, and cut leaving 0.5cm of material on the outside

 

  • Sew this, leaving an opening.
  • With the help of a wool needle, turn the work the right way round.
  • Fill the strawberry and close the opening discretely.

  • With the help of a crochet needle, attach a stalk to the strawberry. 

Body of the crochet bookmark

  • Cut the cardboard into two pieces of 4 x 12 cm.

 

  • Cut a piece of double-sided tape and place on one side of the cardboard.
  • Put the stalk of the strawberry onto the tape (several cm down).

 

  • Put the second half of the cardboard on-top of the other, press it.

  • Paste one side of the cardboard and press on the wrapping paper.
  • Press with the palm of your hand.  
  • Turn over and paste wrapping paper on the other side.
  • Cut the surplus paper with scissors. 

 

  • Write on the back:
    • By hand with a marker or paint.
    • Or, by cutting up words of your choice from magazines and sticking them on.
