Sewing Machine Cover How to make a sewing machine cover

A sewing machine cover will protect your sewing machine from dust and keep it ready to go to work on any sewing project.
Measure your sewing machine and write down the dimensions according to this guide:

  • Width = A
  • Height = B
  • Depth = C
Supplies
Tools
Materials
  • Fabric:
    • for the body, 1 piece measuring (B + B + C) x (A + 2 cm/3/4 inch)
      ! - For example, for a sewing machine measuring 40 cm (15-3/4 inches) in width x 30 cm (1 ft) in height x 20 cm (7-3/4 inches) in depth, the fabric will measure 80 x 42 cm (31-3/4 x 16-1/2 inches).
    • for the sides, 2 pieces measuring (B + 1 cm/3/8 inch) x (C + 2 cm/3/4 inch)
  • Bias tape

Directions

Prepare the fabric for the sewing machine cover

  • In the fabric for the body, on the wrong side, measure and mark the middle of one of the longest sides with a fabric pencil.
  • Measure half of length C on each side of the central point and mark with a fabric pencil.

  • Fold the fabric in 3 sections, folding at each of the 2 outside marks.
  • Iron along these 2 folds to mark them well.
  • Pin the 2 side pieces of fabric to the folded body piece, right sides facing inside.

Assemble the sewing machine cover

  • Sew it all together.

  • Turn right side out.
  • Sew bias tape on at all the edges.

Variations

  • Sew a pocket on the outside of the cover.
  • If the sewing machine has a handle, cut a slit for it and sew bias tape around the border of the slit to finish it.
