Luggage Handle  How to make a bright luggage handle

Tired of trying to find your luggage at baggage claim? This customized fabric luggage handle cover makes your luggage easily identifiable. It’s a great way to personalize your plain luggage, too. It would make a great Father’s Day gift for a dad who travels a lot.

Supplies
Tools
  • Iron
  • Sewing machine
  • Wooden dowel or dull pencil (optional, for helping to turn handle right side out)
Materials
  • Fabric, 2 pieces measuring 15.25 x 16.5 cm (6 x 6-1/2 inches)
  • Thin batting, 1 piece measuring 15.25 x 16.5 cm (6 x 6-1/2 inches)
  • 13 cm (5 inches) sew-on hook-and-loop fasteners (Velcro)
  • Thread
Directions

Prepare the fabric for the luggage handle

  • Position 2 fabric pieces on top of each other, right sides together.

  • Lay batting on top of fabric.

  • Sew with a 0.5-cm (1/4-inch) seam around all 3 pieces, leaving a 5-cm (2-inch) opening.

  • Trim corners.

  • Turn right side out, using wooden dowel or dull pencil to push out corners if needed.

  • Tuck fabric around opening and press with an iron. 
  • Sew opening shut by sewing either just the unsewn 5 cm (2 inches) or the entire side.

  • Sew one side of the Velcro to one of the 14-cm (5-1/2-inch) sides.

Attch the luggage handle

  • Turn fabric over and sew other side of Velcro on the opposite end from the first.
