Woolen Slippers  How to make warm woolen slippers

These woolen slippers with fleece-lined soles are sure to keep your feet warm and toasty! Easily customizable with embellishments, they're perfect for curling up with a good book and a cup of tea on a cold winter's night.

Supplies
Tools
  • Sewing kit
  • Sewing machine
  • Paper for pattern
  • Pencil
  • Clothes iron
Materials
  • Woolen fabric (such as an old blanket) for the uppers
  • Fleece fabric for the soles
  • Fabric scraps for the binding, 3 cm (1-3/16 inch) wide and long enough to go around the slipper opening
Directions

Make the base of the woolen slippers

  • Draw pattern on paper, leaving 1 cm (3/8 inch) for seams.

  • Cut 1 sole piece and 1 of each upper piece from the woolen fabric.
  • Cut 1 sole piece from the fleece.

Make the soles of the woolen slippers

  • Pin the 2 sole layers together and baste around the edges.

Make the top of the woolen slippers

  • Sew the 2 upper pieces together along the top border, 1 cm (3/8 inch) from the edge.

  • Trim any excess fabric and iron along seam.
  • Sew heel edges together, 1 cm (3/8 inch) from the edge.

  • Trim any excess fabric and iron along seam.
  • Pin slipper top to sole, right sides together, and sew 1 cm (3/8 inch) from edge.
    NB : Fleece inner should be on the outside.

  • Trim any excess fabric.
  • Turn slipper right side out.
  • Iron the seams.
  • Trim slipper opening to desired size, making sure your feet fit inside.

Finishing touches for the woolen slippers

  • Cut 2 strips of scrap fabric along the bias, 3 cm (1-3/16 inches) or wider.
  • Fold these strips in half lengthwise and iron the fold.
  • Open the fold, fold one edge toward the center, and iron the fold.

  • Pin unfolded edge of the binding to the outside of the slipper and sew around it, 5 mm (1/16 inch) from the edge.

  • Trim any excess fabric. 
  • Fold the binding over the edge and pin in place on the inside of the slipper.

  • Sew into place with a slip stitch, folding the edge under itself for a clean look. 
  • Repeat with the second slipper, reversing the pattern to make it fit your other foot.
