Vases are a versatile decoration, filling in anywhere from adding some personality to your sideboard to acting as the centerpiece at a dinner party or wedding reception. Martha, one of our first English-language contributors, created this tutorial for a decorated vase. You, too, can transform a plain glass vase into a nature-inspired statement piece.

Here, the design is layered, but you can make any pattern you want!
Supplies
Tools
  • Glue gun
Materials
  • Clear vase
  • Jute cord
  • Dried beans, beads, rice, etc.
  • Fresh or dried flowers, greenery, etc. for filling the vase
Directions

Begin the decorative vase

  • With the glue gun, attach several rows of jute (to the thickness of 4 cm/1-1/2 inches) just below the neck of the vase.

 

  • Alternate layers of jute and dried beans (beads, rice, etc.), leaving some blalnk space in the middle of the vase so that you can see inside.


Finishing touches to the decorative vase

  • Glue final layers of jute and dried beans around the bottom of the vase.


  • Fill with flowers or greenery of your choice.
