Zipper Purse How to make a zipper purse for change

This zipper purse is pretty and practical. It even tapers so it's easy to hold. Alizarine uses pictures of many different models to illustrate this tutorial.

Supplies
Tools
Materials
  • 13 x 21 cm (5-1/8 x 8-1/4 inches) of stiff fabric for the outside
  • 13 x 20 cm (5-1/8 x 7-7/8 inches) of fabric for the lining
  • 10 cm (3-15/16) zipper closure
  • Matching thread
Directions

Outside layer of the zipper purse

  • Position the zipper closure at one end of the fabric, right sides together (the zipper pull is on the right side).

  • Sew the zipper closure to the far end of the fabric.

  • Turn over and mark a fold at 2 cm (3/4 inch), top and bottom.
  • Make a mark on each side of the fold at 1.5 cm (5/8 inch) from the bottom.
  • Tuck in just to the marks and pin in place.
! : Allow extra room for the zipper when folding the sides (about 0.8 cm). That will help when finishing it.

  • Notch the corners.
  • Sew down the 2 sides, not forgetting to open the zipper beforehand.

Lining for the zipper purse

  • Build two 1cm supressions on the small sides. They will be sewed using the upholsterer's stitch.

  • Procede in the same way for the bottom supression.
    • mark the fold,
    • draw 2 reference points at 1.5 cm,
    • make the supression according to the reference points,
    • quilt both sides - lining only.

Finishing touches of the zipper purse

  • Turn it over. This is where the purse really takes shape and the little triangle of sides appears.
  • Insert the 2 parts into one another.

  • Use small stitches to close it up.

Going further

Variant

  • Add a zip fastener on one side, which is attached before sewing up the sides.
