Supplies
Tools
Materials
  • Polar fleece (2 contrasting colors)
  • Matching sewing thread
  • 2 matching buttons
Directions

Prepare the fabric for the reversible jacket

  • Place the patterns on both colors of polar fleece and cut them out, adding 1 cm (3/8 inch):
    • around the pattern of the back,
    • around the pattern of the front flap,
    • at the bottom of the pattern for the sleeves.

Assemble the reversible jacket

  • Pin the cut fabric of each color together, right sides facing each other, and stitch with the sewing machine 1 cm (3/8 inch) from the border: the back and the front, the sleeves, and the sides. You should now have two separate, differently-colored jackets.

  • On each of the two parts, sew a design by hand. Sew it on the left flap of face A and on the right flap of face B (see illustration below). If further embellishment is desired, use the machine to sew extra decorations with a running stitch.

  • Put the two parts together, right sides facing each other. Pin and sew the flaps together, including at the neckline. Turn the jacket inside out, as you would a glove, and press the seams with an iron.

  • Put one set of sleeves inside the other. On each side, fold the edges of the sleeve fabric in toward each other so that they don't show, and sew a seam 1 cm (3/8 inch) from the border.

Finish the reversible jacket

  • Sew a buttonhole into the flap with the embroidery on it, making sure to sew well through both layers of fabric. Sew a button on each side of the other flap, lining it up with the buttonhole.

  • Finish by sewing a 1-cm (3/8-inch) hem on each part of the jacket.
