Explosion Box How to make an explosion box for scrapbooking
 :

An explosion box is a fun, original idea for hiding a gift or displaying photos. It's also an original idea for a wedding or a birth announcement.

Supplies
Tools
  • Cutting board
  • Utility knife
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
Materials
  • 77 x 77 cm (30-5/16 x 30-5/16 inches) thick paper (like cardstock)
  • Double-sided tape
Directions

Make the body of the explosion box

  • From the paper, cut 3 pieces measuring:
    • 30 x 30 cm (11-13/16 x 11-13/16 inches)
    • 29 x 29 cm (11-7/16 x 11-7/16 inches)
    • 17 x 17 cm (6-11/16 x 6-11/16 inches)

  • On the 30 x 30 cm (11-13/16 x 11-13/16 inches) piece, at 10 cm (3-15/16 inches) from each corner, make a 10-cm (3-15/16-inch) cut.
  • Fold perpendicular to each cut to mark the place, then unfold it.

  • On the 29 x 29 cm (11-7/16 x 11-7/16 inches) piece, draw a square at each corner measuring 10 x 10 cm (3-15/16 x 3-15/16 inches).
  • Cut them out. This will leave you with a cross.
  • Fold each tip of the cross in over the center square, marking the spot for the fold.
  • Glue the cross on the bottom of the box.

Make the lid of the explosion box

  • Cut a 16.3-cm (6-7/16-inch) square.
  • Fold in each edge by 3 cm (1-3/16 inches) to mark the spot.
  • Make a cut of 3 cm (1-3/16 inches) at each corner (bold lines on the template).

  • Fold these cut tabs toward the inside.
  • Tape them in place.
  • Refold the sides of the lid.
  • Tape them in place.
  • Refold the sides of the box that will be held closed by the lid.

Tips

  • If you want to glue in photos, glue them on the cross before gluing the cross to the bottom of the box.
  • To make the box more quickly, use paper with patterns on both sides so that you won't have to line the inside.
