  • 20 cm (7-7/8 inches) of ribbon, 1 cm (3/8 inch) wide
  • 2 buttons
  • 2 small links (of ribbon, for example)
Directions

Base of the easy bag

  • Draw and then cut a square of 60 x 60 cm (2 x 2 ft) in the 2 fabrics.
  • Put them on top of each other, wrong sides together.

  • Draw and cut 4 buttonholes at 10 cm and 3 cm (3-5/16 x 1-3/16 inches) from the edges, on 2 opposite sides, following this downloadable pattern.
  • Sew the buttonholes, going through both layers of fabric.
  • Fold closely along the buttonholes and sew the wrong sides at 2 mm (1/32 inch) from the edge.

  • Fold 10 cm (3-5/16 inch) of the other 2 sides and sew the wrong side at 2 mm (1/32 inch) from the edge.
  • Slide the ribbon in one of the buttonholes and make it come out through the other.

  • Gather the fabric and knot the ribbon on each side of the sack.
  • Add a link and a button to close above each knot.

Make the handles of the easy bag

  • Fold the bands of 100 x 8 cm (39-5/16 x 3-3/16 inches) in half lengthwise, with the right side of the fabric on the inside.
  • Sew them lengthwise.
  • Turn them right side out.
  • Sew each open side shut at 2 mm (1/32 inch) from the edge.

  • Slide the handles into the 10-cm (3-5/16-inch) flaps.
  • Sew from end to end, hiding the stitching in the flap.
