This string-tied flower is pretty as a picture and allows you even more creativity. Add a hairpin and you've got a barrette; a ribbon and you've got a headband or wrist corsage; or a fastener and you've got a brooch. Let your imagination run wild and see what you come up with!

  • To form the petals, divide the flower into 4 equal parts, then split them again to make 8 petals.
  • Tie a knot and let the rest of the thread hang to use in the next steps.

  • Draw the leaves and cut the design twice.

  • To make the leaves, there are 2 options depending on the type of fabric:
  • Sew the 2 layers of fabric together, wrong sides together, oversewing the edges and leaving a small opening through which to slide the wadding (option chosen for the example).
  • Sew the 2 layers of fabric together, right sides together, leaving a small opening. Cut away any extra tissue and turn it right side out.

  • Fill the leaves with wadding and sew the opening shut.
  • Sew the flower and the leaves together with the remaining embroidery thread, adding a button (or bead) at the center of the flower.
